Recent Changes in Visa Policies Impacting Indian Students Studying Abroad
Table of Contents
Many countries have recently updated their visa policies for international students, significantly affecting the plans of Indian students aiming to study abroad. Some of these changes aim to reduce the number of international students, while others are designed to attract more.
Countries That Updated Immigration and Visa Policies for International Students
Australia:
Australia has implemented the most significant changes. As of July 1, 2024, the country has halted visa hopping. Temporary visa holders, such as visitors, Maritime Crew visa holders, and Temporary Graduates, can no longer apply for a student visa from within Australia. Additionally, Australian student visa application fees have increased significantly from A$710 to A$1,600. The minimum savings requirement for student visas has also risen from $24,505 to $29,710. These changes will considerably impact Indian students planning to study in Australia.Germany:
Germany has revised its policies to attract more international students, particularly in the healthcare, IT, and engineering sectors. Facing labor shortages, Germany needs approximately 400,000 skilled workers annually. To address this, they have introduced the Opportunity Card, which allows non-EU citizens to come to Germany for a year to search for jobs. Applicants must have at least two years of vocational training or a relevant degree and proficiency in English and German to obtain the card.Europe:
The European Union has also updated its visa rules. Under the new regulations, Indian students can now apply for multiple-entry Schengen visas with longer validity. For Indian nationals, the EU follows a ‘cascade’ regime, offering easier access to multi-year visas.Italy:
Italy has introduced a digital nomad visa, allowing non-EU remote workers to visit and work in Italy for one year, exceeding the previous 90-day limit. This visa is particularly beneficial for remote workers and self-employed freelancers who can apply for remote jobs and earn a decent income. Applicants must meet certain criteria, including having valid health insurance, documented accommodation, and no recent criminal record. For further assistance or queries students can contact us, FND Overseas Education and avail our wide range of services for students on destinations like Study in USA, Study in UK, Study in Canada, Study in Germany, Study in Ireland and many more countries
