Visas have become the biggest hurdle for Indian students wanting to Study Abroad. This has pushed students to look for a wider range of study destinations as the visa policies are getting stringent in traditional countries like the USA, UK, Canada and Australia. While the other countries are implementing stricter norms, the Indian students are now looking for more relaxed visa policies that also allow ongoing job training opportunities. As per the data of the year 2024 more than 1.3 million Indian students are studying abroad. There is a sea-change in this space now. FND Overseas Education, is one of the pioneer student visa processing consultants, is reporting a significant spike by students considering alternative countries for their higher education.
Destinations that have historically created chaos for Visa Processing.
United Kingdom
Over the past five years, a rise in overseas students arriving has brought about fears for some local quarters. The introduction of several new policies has caused a 6.2 percent reduction in visas granted to primary applicants. The first drop was seen approximately four years ago. This restriction has eradicated the provision of such visas for children or family members dependents and complicated things further on obtaining student visas by Indian students.
Canada
After the Visa policy post-pandemic, which was previously thought to be more relaxed in Canada, it became apparent that there are refusals. The other example that is most famously known was in Australia where the government had put a ceiling of issuance of study licenses for new entrants to two years and it really hit Indian students. This has however added complexity to the process as financial requirements for student visas have been raised, which now totals C$20,635. Although these are marked changes, FND Overseas Education will march on and help students get their student visas in order to pursue the dream of quality education.
Australia
The move is part of the overall migration strategy by Australia which has been in creation since long and it aims to focus on genuine student needs, thus making visa norms more strict. They would be saddled with a A$1, 600 bill for an international student visa fee-now up from A$710. Students are therefore looking to move their way out of India into other countries with less stringent study laws.
Emerging New Study Destinations
In traditional destinations, that is resulting in shifting dynamics with new open doors. Now, the Asian and European countries are emerging as a new hub of education destination by Indian students helping to give an all-new perspective in terms of studying abroad.
Germany and Ireland
Because Germany is establishing itself as a top destination, famous for its excellent standard of education and people. The country was voted as an attractive destination by 50 per cent of respondents in ApplyBoard’s latest recruitment partner Pulse Survey. Ireland is also growing, +12 percent international last year and in 2022-23.
Netherlands, Singapore and Malaysia
Countries such as the Netherlands, Singapore and Malaysia realize their education sector can play an instrumental role in attracting students away from home to a great extent. They provide English-taught programs, collaborations with leading global universities which open different pathways for Indian students.
Japan
A good proportion of Indian students are now looking at Japan as an interesting study location. In a related development, the Japanese Ambassador to India was quoted in news reports as emphasizing that acquiring student visas is quite easy and asked young Indians to choose Japan for skill enhancement and work opportunities.
